Vigil for Lorenzo Salgado Araujo | Vigilia por Lorenzo Salgado Araujo

We are gathering to honor the life of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, a father of three who was killed by ICE on July 7 in Houston.

He had lived in this country for more than three decades, ran a small construction business, and was going through the legal process to secure his status. He had no criminal record. He did not deserve to die.

Please join us to grieve together, to say his name, and to stand with our neighbors.

This is a peaceful, unpermitted First Amendment gathering. To keep everyone safe and within our rights, please keep the sidewalk clear at all times and do not block the pedestrian pathway.

How to take part:

• Wear white

• Bring a sign

• Bring flowers, either white flowers or marigolds, to lay together in his memory

Marigolds (cempasúchil) are the traditional flower for honoring the dead in Mexican tradition. Bright and gold, they will carry his memory beautifully in the daylight.

We will build a small ofrenda with his portrait and your flowers, and we will pause together to say his name aloud: Lorenzo Salgado Araujo. Presente.

Please respect our neighbors. Do not photograph or film other attendees without their permission. Some of the people standing with us have real reasons not to be on camera, and their safety comes first.

This is a peaceful gathering. We do not engage with ICE, police, or counter protesters. Stay on the sidewalk, look out for one another, and follow the lead of organizers. Bring water. It will be warm.
