Jasper CAN is where the neighbors who have been keeping their heads down find each other and finally stop organizing in private.
The quiet is not agreement.
In a small county, it can feel like there is one acceptable way to think and one kind of person who gets to say it out loud. So a lot of good people keep quiet. Not because they agree, but because everyone knows everyone, and speaking up in Jasper costs more than it does in a big city.
That silence gets mistaken for consensus. It is not. There are more of us than anyone admits, and most of us have just never been in the same room.
We are not waiting for permission.
Jasper CAN is the newest branch of the North Georgia Community Action Network, a volunteer led, nonpartisan collective across Cherokee, Pickens, Bartow, Forsyth, and Cobb counties. We are not a political party. We are neighbors who got tired of waiting for someone else to do something.
NGA CAN runs on three habits: show up, tell the truth, and do not wait. We have built something local officials take seriously. We know what it takes to stand up in a place like this, because we have done it, and we are not going to let you do it by yourself.
