A Canvass Captain runs the launch. You welcome the volunteers who show up, get the materials organized, make sure everyone knows their turf, and send teams out the door. No prior leadership experience is required.

We are nonpartisan, and plenty of you are not Democrats. Here is why we are putting this in front of you anyway.

Field skills transfer. Moving a list of names into a room, handing people turf, and getting them out the door is the core mechanic behind every canvass we have ever run, including Ansley Park. Nobody asks your registration when you knock a door about a rezoning. You will use what you learn on the 21st for years, on ballots and on everything that is not a ballot.

Local parties are also shaped by whoever shows up. Georgia gives us two viable ballot lines, and the people doing the work inside those organizations set the priorities. If you want land use, water, surveillance, and utility bills taken seriously in Cherokee County, being in the room where the field program gets built is a direct way to push on that.

If canvassing scares you, this is the thing that fixes it. Most of the fear is not about strangers, it is about not knowing the mechanics. Where do I stand. What do I say first. What if nobody is home. Ninety minutes of walking through the process removes most of that.

If you do not think of yourself as a leader, come anyway. Captain is not a title or a committee seat. It is a shift. You show up early, set out materials, greet people, answer questions, and go home. The best ones are usually people who never wanted the job and just wanted the launch to run smoothly.

Cherokee County needs a deeper bench of people who know how to run a field operation. This is how you get on it.
