關於本活動
On the first and third Saturday of every month from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM, Jasper CAN takes to the street to make our voices heard at the James T. Williams intersection in downtown Jasper, one of the busiest four-way intersections in Pickens County. With wide sidewalks, crosswalks, and high visibility, this is the perfect spot for our community to show up and stand together.
This is a permit-free First Amendment event. Show up when you can, stay as long as you like, and bring others.
What to bring:
Signs are encouraged and welcomed! When making yours, think about what you are FOR, not just what you oppose. The most powerful signs speak to our shared values across all backgrounds. Here are some ideas rooted in proven messaging:
FOR our community: "Our Freedom to Keep Our Families Whole" "Born Here or Moved Here, We Belong Together" "Freedom to Learn, Freedom to Thrive" "Keep Our Communities Whole" "Our Freedom to Vote"
Holding power accountable: "MAGA Bullies Work for Billionaires, Not Us" "Abducting Neighbors Is Not Freedom" "The Wealthy Few Rig the Rules" "Our Schools, Our Kids, Our Future" "We Will Not Be Divided"
Messages that lead with shared values, name who is responsible for the harms our community faces, and point toward a better future are far more persuasive than messages focused only on opposition or outrage. Speak to what you love, not only what you fear.
But if you wanna get wacky or aggressive, go for it! Just try to avoid using too many expletives.
Who we are:
Jasper CAN is a chapter of North Georgia Community Action Network (NGA CAN), a volunteer-led civic organization serving Cherokee, Pickens, Bartow, Forsyth, and Cobb counties. We organize across North Georgia because we believe that whether you call Jasper, Canton, Woodstock, or anywhere in between home, your freedom matters and your voice counts.
Location:
The intersection has wide sidewalks and crosswalks on all four corners. Park at a business or church nearby (please be conscious of their customers and purchase something/donate if you can; park at your own risk) and look for us on the corner! No experience necessary. Just show up.
Accessibility:
This event takes place on public sidewalks. Street parking is available nearby. Please dress for the weather and bring water.
