We are gathering to honor the lives of two fathers killed by ICE in the span of a single week.

Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, 52, was killed by ICE on July 7 in Houston. He had lived in this country for more than three decades, ran a small construction business, and was going through the legal process to secure his status. He had no criminal record. He was the sole provider for his wife and their three sons.

Johan Sebastián Durán Guerrero, 26, was shot and killed by an ICE agent on July 13 in Biddeford, Maine, in front of his 3-year-old daughter. He had come from Colombia to build a life for his wife and child, worked two jobs to provide for them, was authorized to work, and had a Social Security number. Officials confirmed he was not the target of the operation and had no warrant for his arrest.

Neither man deserved to die. Please join us to grieve together, to say their names, and to stand with our neighbors.

This is a peaceful, unpermitted First Amendment gathering. To keep everyone safe and within our rights, please keep the sidewalk clear at all times and do not block the pedestrian pathway.

How to take part:

• Wear white

• Bring a sign

• Bring flowers to lay together in their memory. In the Mexican tradition, white flowers or marigolds. In the Colombian tradition, white carnations.

We will build a small ofrenda with their portraits and your flowers, and we will pause together to say their names aloud: Lorenzo Salgado Araujo. Presente. Johan Sebastián Durán Guerrero. Presente.

Please respect our neighbors. Do not photograph or film other attendees without their permission. Some of the people standing with us have real reasons not to be on camera, and their safety comes first.

Vino de Colombia para construir una vida para su esposa e hija, trabajaba dos empleos para mantenerlos, tenía permiso de trabajo y número de Seguro Social. Las autoridades confirmaron que no era el objetivo de la operación y no tenía orden de arresto.

Ninguno merecía morir.

• Traiga mariposas amarillas, reales o de papel. En Colombia, la mariposa amarilla es símbolo del amor, la memoria y la presencia perdurable de quienes hemos perdido. Las colocaremos en la ofrenda para Johan Sebastián.
